Visit to Cinderella

The whole school went to see Cinderella and we enjoyed it because we got to dance to the music and it was really funny.
TJ

Cinderella.
Poor and called names by her sisters who didn't let her go to the ball.
Sad and unhappy.
By Makayla

I walked into the gym and starred a lot at the props that sat upon the stage. At the end I thought it wasn't so bad so I stopped worrying about it.
Hollie

Cinderella was one of the best shows that I have ever seen! The actors were Cinderella, her two Step Sisters, Fairy God Mother, Prince Rupert and the Giant Talking Clock.
Finn

The whole school went to see Cinderella. It was a long trip to Wanaka, but we got there in the end. When we got there we had to line up and then walk into the building to watch Cinderella. When it was half way through the show it was really really funny. The actors were really cool and funny and I enjoyed seeing the show.

Balloon Powered Car

We had an idea... we wanted to see if we could power a car with a balloon. The first car was way too heavy so we tried another car that was not so heavy. I taped a balloon to the car, blew up the balloon and then put the toy car down on the floor. When the air came out of the balloon it pushed it along the floor.

On the Move

Hello parents,
with winter the blog has been in hibernation for the past few months, but now awake and back on the job. In our new unit, On the Move, we are looking at simple machines, how they work and how they help us in every day life. You might be hearing your children use words like gears and levers and even an inclined plane... do you know what these words mean? Follow the link above to the Ed Heads website and see if you know more about the seven Simple Machines than your child... do you think that it is a wedge or a lever? A gear or a wheel and axle?
Also there is a link to the Math Magician site; it is a brilliant place to practice basic facts in a timed situation and a fun way to learn.
Keep watching this space!

Week 1's reserch task

With ANZAC day happening in the holidays it is a good time for us to look at what ANZAC is all about and research a famous New Zealander who has a lot to do with ANZAC day.
The posting this week is a little different, you can chose to find out about our famous new Zealander or just post some comments on what you have found out about the ANZAC's and why we have ANZAC day.
I will give you the name of this weeks famous New Zealander and what you need to do is to find out about him and why and how he became famous. His name is Sir Charles Upham and he was a New Zealand solider in World War 2.
So the homework task is...
-Find out about Sir Charles Upham
or
-Find out about ANZAC day
then...
Add the information that you have found out to the class Blog by posting a comment. Happy researching!

A new term and a new focus for our learning.

Our online homework research topics is becoming a real success. The information that you all found out about Jean Batten was wonderful and informative. A goal for us this term is to get more comments added to our research and to remember to use capital letters when we are writing our name at the bottom of our comment. If you are still unsure how to leave a comment please come and talk with me and I will give you a demonstration on how easy it is :)
Our new learning focus this term is about the Arts (Dance, Drama and Visual Art) and there are many different learning experiences set out for us this term to discover all about the Arts. We will be looking at famous painters, dances from different countries and at the end of the term we will be staging a musical for friends and family. It is going to be an exciting and busy term and I know that we will have a lot of fun learning together.

Who is this person and what did she do?

The famous New Zealander research task is a bit different this week, there is a photo of a famous New Zealander and you need to add all of your information onto the blog as a comment...
...it is easy to do, just have a chat with your friends and family about who you think this famous New Zealander is and then click the comment button at the bottom of this post, add your information on who she is and what she did and then I will publish it to the blog.
Lets see if we can find as much about J___ B_____ as we did about Sir Edmund Hillary last week.

Homework Task

Last week for homework we were given a photo and had to find out who the famous New Zealander was. It was a pretty easy one and turned out to be Sir Edmund Hillary. We all came up with a lot of amazing facts about him like...
-Born in 1919 and died in 2008 at the age of 88.
-The first mountain he climbed was Mt Olive in the Southern Alps (He climbed it in 1939).
-Was in the Air Force in WW2 and was a navigator.
-Climbed Aoraki (Mt Cook) in 1947.
-First person in the WHOLE WORLD to climp Mt Everest with his Sherpa friend Tenzing Norgay.
-Traveled overland to both the North and South Poles and when he went to the South Pole he traveled in a Massey Ferguson tractor!
-He was a Bee Keeper.
-He was shy.
-He liked to read.
It was great to find out so much great information about this hero of New Zealand. There were two other points raised by the children. Firstly Sir Ed did a lot of work to help his friends the Nepalese people and helped to raise money for new schools, hospitals and other projects. Secondly it was pointed out that when on top of Everest Hillary took a photo of Tenzing, but Tenzing did not know how to use the camera and so could not take a photo of Hillary... do you think he should have put a bit more preparation into teaching Tenzing how to use a camera?
