Bit of a Challenge

Today we have had a bit of a group challenge. Getting into groups of 2-3, with a Netbook each, we faced a series of questions that were mostly unknown to us such as…

· How many Japanese Yen in $1 New Zealand.

· What country is Mount Kilimanjaro in?

· How do you say “What is the time?” in Spanish?

We each had to take roles like Decider, Mouse Controller, Recorder or Scout, and we had to work together to find out the answers in a set time.

There were a few bumps in the road that caused small problems and when the printer was not working there was a lot of frustration, but in the end most of the answers were found and there is 2.74 kilograms in 6 pounds.

The main discovery is that with the internet we can find most answers, but we just need to be sure that to begin we have a question to ask.

So below is a question that I have about a man called Pythagoras. I am sure that by using https://www.google.com/, http://www.wikipedia.org/ and http://www.youtube.com/ you might be able to answer the questions.

A day in our lunchbox

Today we looked closely at our lunchboxes, surveyed our different wrappings and packages. We all have really healthy lunches, but we do have a lot of waste packaging. 4 meters of wrappers and 4 meters of glad wrap in one day.

If we were to change our packaging there would be some problems like sandwiches getting soggy, food might get wasted by kids and parents might not find it easy to change the way they prepare lunches.

We decided that we would try and change next week and then see how hard it was.

1.We are going to try and use containers not glad wrap.

2.Label our containers to be responsible for our property.

3.Reuse zip lock and bread bags for our sandwiches.

4.And try and have one less package in our lunchbox every day.

We are giving it a go and challenge you to do the same.

Here are the beginnings of our non-fiction book inspired by Maria Gill’s books ‘Call of the Kokako’ and ‘New Zealand Hall of Fame: 50 Remarkable New Zealanders’.

As you can see a big focus of this has been the layout of the pages and making it appealing to the eye of the reader.
